Wiksten was the Swedish last name of Jenny Gordy’s grandmother. Grammy taught Jenny how to sew when she was young, and those lessons left Jenny with a life-long love that she now channels into her collection. From washing her fabrics before she starts to work with them to cutting patterns, every step of Wiksten is done by Jenny, by hand out of her studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. She works primarily in natural linen, cotton and silk and has an eye for delicate ikats, stripes, plaids and droll floral prints that she then crafts into clean and classic silhouettes. Jenny has studied at the University of Kansas and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. She now resides in an apartment in Williamsburg, Brooklyn with Sophia, Seymour and Joe (Sophia and Seymour are the aforementioned cats; Joe is the husband).
